It's Gay Pride Month!  WRITER'S NOTE: This post was originally taken down for violating Google's standards. The offending item — as far as I can tell, since I wasn't told specifically — was a photo of two men in the back of a pickup truck in a parade in hometown US of A. Families with kids lining the street. The boys were dressed in full S&M leathers, one bare ass, in a strangle hold by the other. In a video of this same duo our "bottom" fellow is being symbolically whipped by his "top". Just good family fun on the sunny streets of suburbia; but not on a Google blog.  Onward ... [Now with an imagined multi-cultural, inclusive national flag as the lead photo.] Let's jump that shark.  Hey You! Stop Being Queer! That's Just So Queer!  I know I'm on thin ice here. Seems anyone that even appears to look like being against the LBGTQ+ thing is a not-woke asshole. No contest ... my ex-wife et al have proven that case. [In their minds, that i...

Vapid Pols

I'm critical of the current Democrat Party for what in my view is not having anything to offer other than spitting out whatever the latest focus group suggests will get a vote. And, with no end in sight to driving with a tank full of "Not Trump" They have made out the opponents be so evil as to represent an existential threat to the country. What could go wrong with that? Joe's idea of unity is when everybody agrees with him. In 2024, whoever is the Dem candidate, the strategy will be, "Still Better Than Trump". And, that's irrespective of whether DT will in fact run again.  Isn't it foreseeable that some Joe Blow's could get it into their heads to do some real damage given that the stakes have been raised to a do or die level? Don't way I didn't warn on this.

Game On!

We are living in interesting times. For ... sure. I've been watching the political rhetoric in this US of A over the last several years and the ante of "anti" seems to have been raised to the point now where we're all in. One side sees the other as the devil incarnate. The other side ... pretty much the same thing. Maybe with different words. Pick a side! When you caste the situation in absolute, black and white terms I don't see any way forward with that except to some sort of violent confrontation. Scorched earth outcome, when you draw it out to its final end point. The problem with political rhetoric spewed out in world-ending, cataclysmic terms is that it can put someone or someone's in mind to do something about that.  Pols frighten me with their words. Calling the other the devil, a fascist, a nazi, a war criminal, a murderer, a mad man, a pariah ... them's fightin' words, bruh. I don't get that those slinging that stuff have any more motive ...

This Explains a Lot

I recently saw this: “According to the U.S. Department of Education, 54% of U.S. adults 16-74 years old - about 130 million people - lack proficiency in literacy, reading below the equivalent of a sixth-grade level.” I don't know what the stat would be on "logic", but I bet the number is even higher. Doesn't that give a little insight into to how come the pols talk to us the way they do? Small, easily assimilated morsels of assumed meaning(s) loaded with subtext and meta messaging. Its called propaganda. Remember, "Kids in cages". Immigrant detainees held in "concentration camps". "Insurrection!" "Coup!" "Sleepy Joe." "Fake News*." In each case there's a grain of truth. My point is to be on the alert for attempts to convince you that the grain is the whole enchilada. Or, as Doctor Jill would put it, the whole "Breakfast Taco" at the local "Bodaga". *That "Fake News", there...

Political Climate Update January 2022

Political Climate Update January 2022 From a social media post January 2021 ... It's not a good day in America when a large swath of the citizenry considers another large swath of their fellows to be so wrong as to not even merit consideration of their point of view. Yet the former is so consumed with fear of totalitarian rule by the latter that it fails to see how that very intolerance it harbors — howsoever justified — could come back and bring their worst fears up from within their own ranks. Mostly what I hear from social media is saying even that makes me into a Trump supporter. And, I hear there are a lot of prominent media types asserting that pro-45 is the same as al Qaeda, Hitler, Stalin, Caligula ... Insert your favorite villain of choice. Thoughts upon hearing actor Sean Penn blasted the 74 million Americans who voted for President Donald Trump in the 2020 election by camparing them to radical Islamic terror group al-Qaeda. Really!?    History repeating itself? No! ...

Big Brother and the Emoji

Image
Big Brother and the Emoji I got two [2] gripes. Two [2]. First [1], how social media is gradually corraling us hoi polloi into a vacuous language of emojis. As if we don't already communicate in jargon with conventional words. A social media friend is in the habit of tacking an emoji to my comments. Heck, my own kids, when it even suits them to, give me a thumbs-up; or, if feeling generous, a heart. Pressed on how that says absolutely nothing ... huffs and puffs. Oh, Dad! Not much room for good old fatherly criticism, hey? I get it with the "Like" thumb; thank you Mark Z. You like it. We Like it. I Like it. Just what you like, and what you think you are liking ... who knows. That heart. Nice. But, is the Heart emoticon gonna be a substitute for the real thing? It seems to be taking the love out of love. Just a toss-away item. Attenuated jargon.  My issue is that we may be headed for a world of social interaction where we not only have moved away from empty lip-service...

Democrats! As in how they typically accept everything that is put up to them by the political leaders they follow.
